ATHENS, Texas — Texas fisheries biologists know their jobs are changing. On January 22 a trio of experts will give them a glimpse of what the future may hold at the annual meeting of the Texas Chapter of the American Fisheries Society.

AUSTIN, Texas — Since January 2009, a microscopic alga most often found in north and west Texas has been confirmed at four south Texas sites: Corpus Christi, Kingsville, McAllen, and Jim Hogg County. All four occurrences caused fish kills in private ponds and investigations by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Kills and Spills Team have found no evidence that public waters were affected.

Washington, D.C. – Project Learning Tree® (PLT), the environmental education program of the American Forest Foundation, has announced that Beatrice Long, a Houston resident who teaches at Seabrook Intermediate School, was named one of five 2009 National PLT Outstanding Educators.
