OK, we had some conflict with our brothers at Texas Bass Couples and I have needed to make a change on a couple dates. It is our hopes that many that fish one trail may fish both. This will truly make this schedule finalized.

Combs Outlasts Mike Iaconelli in Sudden Death Fish-Off

CONROE—The Toyota Texas Bass Classic (TTBC), the world championship of professional bass fishing, had to go into overtime to crown a champion. Keith Combs of Huntington, Texas, outlasted Mike Iaconelli of Pittsgrove, New Jersey, in an unprecedented sudden death fish-off.

AUSTIN – A new state law from the recent legislative session will require mandatory boater education for more people in Texas starting Sep. 1, a move supporters say will save lives and make crowded waters safer.

Tournament anglers encouraged to consider oxygen injection in livewells

ATHENS—The hotter the weather, the more difficult it is to keep bass in livewells healthy, especially during tournaments, when heavy limits of fish may be held for several hours until weigh-in.

Bass fishing heats up in summer, but extra effort is required by tournament anglers to maintain the health of their catch this time of year. Dissolved oxygen is the single most important factor for keeping bass alive, and an understanding of factors that affect oxygen levels will better enable anglers to keep their fish alive.

ATHENS—Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) Inland Fisheries staff has partnered with the Texas Bowfishing Association (TBA) and the Texas BASS Federation Nation (TBFN) to conduct a grass carp removal tournament on Lake Conroe Saturday and Sunday July 9 and 10.

ATHENS—We’re  into the final stretch for anglers to qualify for this year’s Toyota Texas Bass Classic on Lake Conroe October 28—30, and it’s going to be a showdown on all three tours.

ATHENS — A recent cooperative effort between Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD Inland Fisheries management staff, the City of Waco, Cameron Park Zoo, and some local scouts from China Spring deployed new fish habitat into Lake Brazos on Wednesday.

Going into May the lake is about 8ft below high pool and it looks like unless we have a real gully washer it will continue to drop. In the summer we can lose a half- inch or more a day through evaporation plus the amount of water that is released at the dam. No telling how low the lake may get.

AUSTIN – The Llano River in Texas has been named one of 10 “Waters to Watch” for 2011 in the National Fish Habitat Action Plan. The watch list doesn’t necessarily indicate waters in trouble, but points to those that will benefit from strategic conservation efforts to protect, restore or enhance them, thus providing models for good work elsewhere.

ATHENS—Faron McCain of Sweetwater went fishing at O.H. Ivie Reservoir April 14 intending to catch a big largemouth bass on her spawning bed, and he did just that.

As the new owners and operators of Crazy Bear Lodge we would like to offer you our warmest greetings.  After enduring a devastating fire that nearly swallowed the lodge whole, Crazy Bear is stronger than ever.  We were very fortunate to escape without any damage, mostly in part to the fact the fire fighters were using the lodge as there home base to fight the enormous fire.  This allowed the crews to fend of the fire from our infamous rock and save Crazy Bear for the next generation of fisherman.  We allowed a couple years for the trees to recover and for the new growth to appear.  The recovery has been incredible and therefore we are taking select groups for the 2011 summer season.  Dedicated to the outdoors our team own 2 other fishing lodges in BC.  In the fall you will find us on the banks of the Bulkley River battling wild steelhead (you can learn more about this operation here).  The rest of the year we are attacking salmon and steelhead in the remote waters of the Queen Charlotte Islands (for more in click here)

Bass fishing on Caddo Lake is great with water temps ranging in the low to mid 60's water color is stained to clear the main lake bite has been the best for me there are a lot of bites to be had fishing windy points of islands and main lake points in 2 to 4ft of water watermelon red flukes,senko's' gold rogues, and soft plastic creature baits are working best in these areas.
