02/20/2004 - Yamaha SR230 Wins Boating Industry's - Yamaha Outboards

Yamaha SR230 Wins Boating Industry's
Palo Duro Webcast Links Students With Geologic WonderYamaha Outboards writes:
KENNESAW, GA - The Yamaha SR230 boat, a 23-foot, 10-passenger open-bow runabout that features two independent, four-stroke engines and a unique lounge area at the stern, won the 2003 National Marine Manufacturers Association Innovation Award at the Miami International Boat Show in Miami Beach, Florida.
Chosen best of class in the Runabout Category by a panel of judges representing Boating Writers International, the $26,999 SR230 stood out in a category dominated by traditional, more expensive models.

"Our only question in judging this product is why another boat manufacturer didn't come up with this before," said Michael Verdon, who presented the award on behalf of Boating Writers International, the largest association of boating writers and publishers in the world.

"We liked the fact that this was the world's first jet boat with twin four-stroke engines. But we loved the innovative design of the transom, with its semicircular pattern. The large area opens up new possibilities not only for water sports, but socializing, too. A group can sit happily back there, while the boat's at anchor, and use the table for drinks or snacks. Yamaha deserves credit for this design, which is a strong addition to the runabout category," said Verdon.

For Yamaha, the award was especially exciting in that the SR230 was honored in the Runabout Category, which represents many of the best boat manufacturers in the world. "We were so excited to have the SR230 win this award against such stiff competition. It proves that Yamaha is not only a contender but a leader in the family runabout segment," said Steve Lawler, Public Relations manager for Yamaha Watercraft Group.

From bow to stern, the SR230 is filled with innovations built specifically for the family. "We know exactly what the family buyer is looking for. They're looking for seat comfort, a comfortable ride, interior space, quick acceleration for towing and value. The SR230 interior is made to maximize passenger comfort and features an all-new hull with increased dead rise which creates a more comfortable ride. The boat has 14 storage compartments and a center walk through transom to maximize usable space and features dual engines for best-in-class acceleration. The SR230 is also priced some ten thousand dollars less than comparable models, making it an unmatched value," said Scott Watkins, Product Development manager for Yamaha's Boat division.

Adding to the excitement of the 2003 NMMA Innovation Award, Yamaha Boat sales at the Miami International Boat Show increased by 120% compared to last year.

Yamaha WaterCraft Group is a subsidiary of Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA. Yamaha WaterCraft Group markets and distributes Yamaha boats and WaveRunnnerŪ personal watercraft in the United States.
